The Malays in Singapore are blessed with the many Voluntary Welfare Organisations that provide crucial social services for the community. Some in existence since the pre-war era, these Malay/Muslim Organisations (MMOs) have underwent several transformations over the decades. While initially set up by volunteers in the spirit of gotong-royong, today, most of these organisations are run by professionals with annual budget into the millions. BAKTI aims to capture this metamorphosis and how these MMOs aim to remain relevant in the fast changing social service sector.
