The school milk programme was officially introduced to schoolchildren in the 1950s, with the objective of improving their nutritional intake. In this clip, Eugene Wijeysingha, a former school principal, shared about how the idea was adopted from the United Kingdom and implemented during a time when poverty was still rife. Once the nation’s overall standard of living improved, the scheme was no longer necessary.
