It is a widely-held belief that Martin Luther, the 16th-century Protestant reformer, was the first to add lighted candles to a tree. The idea came to him as he was walking home one winter evening and was awed by the brilliance of stars twinkling amidst evergreens. In this clip, Roland Schoon recalled how Christmas trees were decorated similarly in the past and reminisced about having his uncle dressed up as Santa Claus when he was a young boy.
