This week, on On The Red Dot’s new series The Science of Things, our series host Paul Foster zooms in on medicine’s latest and meets the men behind its science. Using robots in surgery has become a norm at the National University Hospital. Trained robotic surgeon Dr Joseph Ng puts Paul through his paces as he tries his hand at manipulating a robot. Dr Ng also shares the many benefits of robotic surgery and how it could be a solution to the bed crunch problem hospitals are facing. Meanwhile at the Singapore General Hospital, doctors are using therapeutic hypothermia on cardiac arrest patients. This treatment of cooling the body not only increases survival rate, but also decreases the risk of damage to the brain and vital organs. Paul finds out what it took for doctors like Associate Professor Marcus Ong to use the procedure when treating cardiac arrest patients. Catch our new 5-part series “THE SCIENCE OF THINGS”, On The Red Dot, on Friday @ 9.30pm on Channel 5.
