A watershed film for South Africa, this HBO Original film is the first international film shot in the Zulu language that marks a brave attempt to erase the long-standing stigma of AIDS in a country that has been ravaged by it, primarily from lack of knowledge about the disease. Set against the awesome, harsh landscapes of South Africa, the film revolves around 30-year-old Yesterday who lives in a remote village in South Africa’s Zululand, Rooihoek, whose life is threatened when she is diagnosed with AIDS. Strengthened by the love for her daughter, Yesterday must then journey to learn about and confront her illness.
