Set in third century BC China, this epic historical film about Ying Zheng, the king of Qin who later becomes the First Emperor. Billed as the most expensive film ever made in China at its time of release, it explores the king's relationship with a childhood companion, Gao Jianli, who is now a musician. When he spares the life of his friend during his campaign to unify the provinces of China, he orders Gao to compose a national anthem for his new kingdom.
